The University of Saskatchewan rodeo team is a member organization consisting of members from across western Canada who are passionate about the sport of rodeo. All members are either current students, apprentices or permit holders that compete in the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (CIRA). All of our members are involved with the logistics of running the rodeo team. The U of S rodeo team is the only one of its kind in Saskatchewan, providing students the opportunity to succeed in the arena while pursuing a post-secondary education.
This year the team has decided to host its annual rodeo at the Big Country Agricultural Society Crossroads Centre in Oyen, AB on March 28th and 29th, which is open to the public to come and watch and cheer on their favourite competitors and events. The rodeo will consist of most regular rodeo events including: bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, pole bending, breakaway roping, and of course bull riding. Competitors will come from all over western Canada from schools like Lakeland College, University of Alberta, Red Deer College, Lethbridge University and College, Northern Lights College, and others. The team is also hosting a dance that is open to the community on the Saturday night (March 28th).
The members have been performing at top notch levels this year within the CIRA circuit and are excited to showcase their skills in the upcoming rodeo they are ecstatic to host. Each member has worked hard to gain sponsorship and organize the logistics of the rodeo and we are so thankful to the community and supporting communities for their help and contribution to this weekend. Hope to see you all there!
