Not only does Lucas Theriault have a pair of hat tricks this season, both have been natural hat tricks.

The talented centre shone on Saturday, leading the Soo Thunderbirds to a 4-2 victory over the Soo (Mich.) Eagles at Pullar Stadium.

The victory for the T-Birds avenged Friday night’s 4-3 loss to the Eagles at John Rhodes Community Centre.

“We played really well. We had an all-round great game,” Theriault said of Saturday’s clash, which boosted the T-Birds NOJHL record to 35-10-0-1. “We were better than last night (Friday), guaranteed.”

The Sault native also spoke of how the Thunderbirds were sloppy during Game 1 of weekend play.

After Sault Ont., native Raf Praysner put the Eagles in front with the only goal of the first period on Saturday, Theriault scored three times in a span of 5:24 in the middle frame.

“Give my linemates credit,” said Theriault, who centres wingers Noah Boman and Matt Bazarin. “They got me the puck and worked really hard.”

Theriault has a team-leading 34 goals. Nick Smith, who had the other goal on Saturday, is second with 26.

Boman contributed three assists while Tristan Cicchello helped set up a pair of goals.

William Anderson was in goal on a night when the Eagles held a 36-33 edge in shots.

On Friday, Theriault, Smith and Brendan Miller notched goals in defeat, while Boman added two assists. Colin Ahern was between the pipes and the T-Birds held a 32-29 edge in shots.
