ThunderHawks unveil new jerseys

The Wallaceburg ThunderHawks have unveiled the new jerseys they’ll be sporting for their debut season in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

The red home jerseys and black away jerseys each have the ThunderHawks logo and name on the chest.

The former Wallaceburg Lakers changed their name, logo and colours in the off-season.

The ThunderHawks will play their pre-season finale Friday against the Petrolia Flyers in Watford. They’ll begin the regular season Sunday against the Blades at Blenheim Memorial Arena at 7 p.m.

Ballhawks to host free clinic Thursday

The Chatham Ballhawks will host a free volleyball clinic Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Clair College’s Chatham Campus HealthPlex.

Boys and girls in Grades 6 to 8 are welcome.

Welch wears ‘A’ for Komoka

Forward Cameron Welch of Charing Cross is an assistant captain for the Komoka Kings and will wear a letter at road games.

Welch, 18, scored two goals in two games at the GOJHL Showcase last weekend.

He was traded to the Kings from the Chatham Maroons early last season and finished with 8-11-19 totals in 41 games as a rookie.

Another ex-Maroon, forward Josh Barraclough, is an assistant captain with the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Volleyball tryout schedule

The Chatham Ballhawks will begin their travel team volleyball tryouts this weekend.

U18 girls (born 2002) and U17 girls (born 2003): Sunday, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Ursuline College Chatham; Wednesday, Sept. 18, 8-9:30 p.m., St. Clair College HealthPlex; and Sunday, Sept. 22, 1-2:30 p.m., HealthPlex.

U16 girls (born 2004): Sunday, 3:30-5:30 p.m., UCC; Wednesday, Sept. 18, 7:30-9:30 p.m., CKSS; and Sunday, Sept. 22, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., HealthPlex.

U15 girls (born 2005): Sunday, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., UCC; Wednesday, Sept. 18, 6:30-8 p.m., HealthPlex; and Sunday, Sept. 22, 2-3:30 p.m., UCC.

U14 girls (born 2006): Sunday, Sept. 22, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., UCC; Wednesday, Sept. 25, 7:30-9 p.m., HealthPlex; and Monday, Sept. 30, 7:30-9 p.m., HealthPlex.

Sting fourth in Premier Division

The Wallaceburg Sting are tied for fourth place in the Western Ontario Soccer League’s Premier Division with a 7-7-2 record and two games left.

The Sting will play their home finale at 5 p.m. Saturday at Kinsmen Park against Sarnia FC.

The visiting Sting lost to Tillsonburg FC 2-0 last Friday.
