Beaver Brae blown out by East Kildonan

The Broncos varsity football team was in Winnipeg Thursday, Oct. 3 for a road date against the East Kildonan Reivers. The Broncos fell 30-0 to the Reivers to fall to 0-5 in Division 2 of the Winnipeg High School Football League. Beaver Brae will look to get into the win column Thursday with a home game against the West Kildonan Wolverines at the Tom Nabb Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.

Saints star at cross country meet

Four Saints finished atop the podium in the Mount Evergreen Fall Classic Thursday, Oct. 3. Addyson Greer won the Grade 7/8 girls 2.5 kilometre race, while Scanlon Wiebe won the Grade 7/8 boys 2.5km race, Brady Redsky of Beaver Brae finished an extremely close second.

Marlies Ilott won the senior girls’ 5 km race, while Liam George won the senior boys’ 5 km race. Colby Wallace of TA nabbed silver in the junoir boys 5 km race.

Saints win Steinbach tournament

The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints boys’ volleyball team won a tournament in Steinbach, Man. Saturday, Oct. 5. The Saints beat hosts Steinbach Christian High School in the final 2-1 (25-9, 20-25, 15-12). The Saints beat the Beaver Brae Broncos in the semifinals en route to their championship. The Broncos placed third after losing to the Rosenort Redhawks 2-0 (25-17, 25-17).

Bronco basketball struggle in Thunder Bay

The junior and senior Beaver Brae girls’ basketball teams were in Thunder Bay Oct. 4-5 where they didn’t have much luck. The Bronco seniors finished 0-3 with losses to the Hammarskjold Vikings, White Pines Wolverines in overtime and local rivals the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.The juniors also finished 0-3 with losses to Hammarskjold, the Dryden Eagles and the St. Patrick Saints of Thunder Bay.

Both basketball coaches – Trevor Belrose and Jocelyn Dockerty – were happy with the “continued growth and development” in their teams. Belrose was “very encouraged” by the overtime loss to White Pines and a close loss to TA.

Court sport matches cancelled

Due to busing issues, matches between the Beaver Brae Broncos court sport teams and Sioux North Warriors were cancelled Tuesday evening. The Broncos will be in Dryden Thursday for games against the Eagles in NorWOSSA ‘AA’ action.
