The Brantford Red Sox season came to an end on Tuesday night with a 6-0 home loss to the Barrie Baycats.

Barrie swept the best-of-seven Intercounty Baseball League quarter-final playoff series 4-0.

Matt McGovern and Anthony Rizquez got two hits each to lead the Red Sox on offence.

Mike Mueller took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) in six innings. He allowed 13 hits, struck out two and walked one.

Baycats starter Emilis Guerrero (2-0) tossed six shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out eight.

At the plate, Ryan Rijo went 5-for-5 with three RBIs, Kyle DeGrace had three hits, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base, Starlin Rodriguez singled twice and scored, Kevin Atkinson drove in a run and scored, and Conner Morro had two hits and an RBI.

Barrie is the five-time defending league champions who are looking to tie Brantford’s IBL record of six straight championships, which the Red Sox set from 2008 to ’13.
