Battle of Quinte
The Trenton Golden Hawks host Round 3 of the Battle of Quinte tonight when the arch rival Wellington Dukes roll into the Community Gardens for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
The two Ontario Junior A Hockey League opponents played to a 3-3 draw in their first meeting Sept. 28 in Wellington, while the Dukes won Round 2 5-2 Oct. 26 in Trenton.
The Golden Hawks are on a four game undefeated streak (3-0-1) and currently stand third in the East Division with an 11-6-4-0 record, one point behind the Whitby Fury (13-5-1-0). The Dukes have lost three straight and stand fourth in the East at 10-11-1-2.
The G-Hawks head to North York Sunday for a 3 p.m. matinee with the league-leading Rangers (19-1-0-3). The Dukes head to Cobourg Monday to take on the East Division-leading Cougars (14-4-0-4) at 7 p.m.
BQ football
The Bay of Quinte high school football championships are set for Saturday at M.A. Sills Park with the junior final between Bayside Red Devils and Centennial Chargers at 10 a.m., and the senior final between Centennial and Eastside Secondary Ravens at 12 noon.
Loyalist Lancers
The Loyalist Lancers women’s volleyball team swept the Fleming Knights 3-0 Wednesday in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play at Loyalist College.
The Lancers, who now sport a record of 2-and-3, beat the Knights 25-14, 25-16, 25-8.
In mens play, the Lancers remained winless after five matches, falling 3-1 to the Knights, 22-25, 25-21, 10-25, 22-25.
Both the men and women play host the Algonquin Thunder Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
Meanwhile, the Lancers men’s basketball team returns to action Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. when they host the St. Lawrence Vikings.
The Lady Lancers basketball team also hosts the Vikings Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.
Molson hockey
The Red Lion Pub clipped Carpet One 7-6 during Molson Tuesday Night Hockey League action at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Tyler McKown had three goals and an assist fir Red Lion while Tyler Vivian and a goal and three assists, Andrew Davidson, a goal and two helpers, and Tyler Cassibo and Mitch Latchford, a goal apiece. Ron MacDonald scored twice for Carpet One while Jason Bonisteel added a goal and two assists, and Mitch Cronkright, Cody Maracle, and Todd Munden, a goal each.
Duvanco Homes trounced Shoeless Joe’s 7-1.
Eamonn Courtney scored twice for Duvanco while Jeff Broekema, Lucas Hooley and Alex Wilson each had a goal and two assists, Davis Beamish, a goal and an assist, and Brad Gillick, one goal. Shane Botting scored the lone goal for Shoeless Joe’s.
Moira River Monsters edged Bellevue Pelicans 7-6.
Evan Greer had two goals and two assists for Monsters while Jeremy Burley added two goals and an assist, David Lytle, two goals, and Dylan Watson, one goal. Jordan Cannons had two goals and an assist for Pelicans while Brett Bateman added a goal and two assists, Matt Martin and Mitch Pearce, a goal and an assist each, and Cody Stapley, one goal.
Bulldogs AGM
The Belleville Bulldogs Rugby Football Club will hold its Annual General Meeting Tuesday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at the Pro Shop meeting room at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
