Lakers, Sharks suffer home losses

The Wallaceburg Lakers’ scoring drought continued Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to the Amherstburg Admirals.

The winless Lakers have scored only five goals in eight games in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Bill Stobbs Division.

The Lakers have already been shut out three times this season. They ended last season with five consecutive shutout losses.

They trailed only 1-0 Wednesday until Ty Moss of the Admirals scored into an empty net with 10 seconds left.

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks lost 5-3 to the Essex 73’s and the Lakeshore Canadiens beat the Mooretown Flags 6-1.

Admirals 2, Lakers 0

At Wallaceburg, Lakers goalie Patrick Timpany stopped 19 of 20 shots in front of 200 fans at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.

Ben Larder had a 29-save shutout and Cory Burns scored in the first period for the Admirals (5-2-0-1).

The Lakers (0-8-0-0) will visit the Sharks on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

73’s 5, Sharks 3

At Wheatley, Josh Pope-Ferguson of the 73’s broke a 3-3 tie with less than seven minutes left and Michael Vieira added an insurance goal.

Parker Boyle, Delaney MacDonald and Alixe Saliba scored for the Sharks (4-4-0-0), who erased a 3-1 deficit in the third period before 348 fans at Wheatley Area Arena.

The teams combined for six goals in the final period.

Sharks goalie Catalin Morin made 28 saves. Connor Meyerink of the 73’s made 31.

Pope-Ferguson finished with two goals. Dawson Winchester and Curtis Jackson also scored for the 73’s (6-1-0-1).

Canadiens 6, Flags 1

At Mooretown, Nathan Skulley, Connor Dembinski, Eric Larue, Hunter Bailey, Ameen Fadel and Matt Smith scored for the Canadiens (6-1-1-1).

Brock Perry tallied for the Flags (3-3-0-2).
