Bulldogs drop opener 51-6 to Sudbury

The North Bay Bulldogs senior men’s football team opened its season with a 51-6 loss Saturday to their regional rivals the Sudbury Spartans.

Sudbury opened the scoring early with two touchdowns in the first quarter followed by three touchdowns in the second quarter.

After another Spartans touchdown in the third quarter, the Bulldogs put together some solid drives, culminating in quarterback Kaelen Mathon throwing a pass to tight end Tyler Johnson in the fourth quarter for the Dogs’ only touchdown.

The Spartans drove in a final touchdown in the fourth quarter before the game came to a close.

Defensive highlights for the Bulldogs included interceptions by free safety Russ Burns and cornerback Kory Benoit. Linebacker Jesse Shoults had the only sack for the Bulldogs, resulting in a six-yard loss for Sudbury. Tackles were spread out among the defensive corps, with JD Watson leading the team with 3.5.
