Kalob Kochanoswky, 20, of the Tri-Region and Spruce Grove was charged with three counts of motor vehicle theft.
A Spruce Grove man is facing multiple counts of theft after developments in St. Albert earlier this month.
Officers from the city’s RCMP began an investigation Jan. 2 into a report of two males who allegedly stole personal items from lockers at the Servus Credit Union Place leisure centre in the community. They are alleged to have stolen wallets and vehicle keys and driven off in the purported victim’s vehicle afterwards.
The suspects are then thought to have proceeded to use the victims credit cards at area gas stations.
While subsequently patrolling a part of the city known to be prone to criminal activity, police observed one of the suspects from the earlier incident operating another allegedly stolen truck. Police then attempted a stop, but the driver fled the area. He was later arrested Jan. 5 at the St. Albert Public Library without issue.
As a result, Kalob Kochanoswky, 20, of the Tri-Region and Spruce Grove was charged with three counts of motor vehicle theft, five counts of credit card theft, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, one of fleeing from the police, two of operating while prohibited, one of failure to comply with previous release conditions and one of breaking and entering. The charges have not been proven in court.
Kochanoswky was remanded into custody and will be appearing in St. Albert Provincial Court Monday.
His alleged accomplice, Francois Derek Demarre, of Lac La Biche, is wanted for four counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failing to appear. If anyone has any information regarding any crime, this case or Demarre’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact the St. Albert RCMP detachment at 780-458-7700, their local police detachment or tip anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Police urge the public to always lock up too, as the locker and car in this case were allegedly open.
