I Believe! A truly fitting theme for the annual Holiday Wine and Gourmet Tasting event for the United Way of SDG.

The event is quickly approaching and tickets are going fast for this event, that is the biggest single fundraiser for the organization.

“It is our signature event,” said Karen Brunet. “We have raised over $225,000 over five years.”

Brunet said the goal this year was $50,000 and she feels confident that goal can not only be reached, but surpassed.

“People will be greeted with cider, a sparkling cider,” said Stephanie Lalonde, event co-ordinator for the United Way.

“Our signature cider cocktail, dancing pomegranate seeds, it’s very popular,” said Brunet.

Lalonde said the evening is filled with different things to do, including a silent auction, and from 7 until 10 p.m. there will of course be wine and gourmet food tasting.

“And specialty martini and whiskey tasting,” added Brunet.

Brunet said they were hoping to sell out tickets at 600, which they did last year.

“We are almost sold out right now,” she said. “We are very close.”

Tickets cost $100 each and there are a number of prizes to be won.

“There is a very beautiful pair of diamond stud earrings from Pommier Jewellers that one lucky person will walk away with,” said Lalonde.

Other prizes include designer wallets with $1,000 cash or tickets for next year’s event.

“Last year we introduced our wine tree,” said Lalonde. “During the evening we will be selling tickets for that. What one lucky winner is going to receive is a year’s worth of wine, 52 bottles of vintage, high-end wine.”

Brunet said they had some bottles donated that are worth upwards of $1,000.

“That will be included in the 52 bottles,” she said. “We will be shopping for the remainder of the wine at the LCBO here and the larger Vintages store in Ottawa. It will be wine from around the world. I try to include every continent as well as countries in the continents.”

There will also be a live auction with items like a hot tub from SunClass Spas and a weekend getaway in Prince Edward County.

“We have an adrenaline rush, which is a choice of race car driving, skydiving or off-roading,” said Brunet. “It’s a really great package. We also have sailing for two on the St. Lawrence River in Long Sault. That’s a full day of sailing including libations and food.”

The event is on Nov.24 at the Nav Centre. Tickets can be bought online at the United Way website unitedwaysdg.com, at the United Way office on Water Street or at the courtesy desk at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer.

After 10 p.m., the cash bar starts with live entertainment from the Kealey-Greer All Star Band, also known as Dueling Pianos.
