The Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) arrested two individuals after tracking down a suspect vehicle that fled from police last Wednesday.

At around 7 p.m., the CRU had been conducting patrols in the area of 96 Street and 100 Avenue when they spotted a vehicle matching the description of a one recently stolen out of Beaverlodge.

Upon seeing police, the vehicle fled the area. The same vehicle was located in the Cobblestone area shortly after and the CRU attempted to stop the vehicle only for it to flee again.

The suspect vehicle was later located parted at the Clarimont Shell gas station. Police managed to prevent the vehicle from fleeing again and subsequently arrested the driver and the passenger. An investigation revealed that the vehicle was not stolen.

Cody Magnusson, 38, of Grande Prairie, who drove the vehicle, was charged with flight from police, fail to comply with release conditions, drive uninsured motor vehicle on highway and obstructing a peace officer.

Cassandra Voth, 19, of Wembley, who was the passenger, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and fail to comply with release conditions.

Both are scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Feb. 24.
