Stolen vehicle recovered in Sturgeon Falls, two charged

Two people face charges following an OPP traffic stop in Sturgeon Falls Jan. 11.

OPP say the investigation revealed the driver had a suspended licence and was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Further investigation revealed the plates attached to the vehicle were not authentic and the vehicle had been reported stolen. All three occupants were arrested.

Police located and seized break-in tools, a quantity of stolen personal identification documents and credit cards, along with key fobs for various vehicles, falsified plates, prescription drugs, suspected to be Ativan and Canadian currency.

The driver, Matthew Summers, 31, from Field, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, seven counts of fail to comply with a recognizance and three counts of fail to comply with a probation order.

The two passengers were released unconditionally.

While further investigating the matter, officers learned that one of the passengers had provided a false name.

Jennifer Renaud, 37 of Field was arrested Jan. 12 and charged with obstruct peace officer, personation with intent to avoid arrest, possession of a Schedule 1 substance – other drugs, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break-in instruments, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000 and five counts of fail to comply with recognizance.

Both accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice – Bail Court in North Bay on Jan. 23.
