The Spruce Grove and District Chamber of Commerce will have one last show before being lost to time.
The organization’s annual awards gala is back Oct. 19 and will feature categories like Business of the Year, Marketer of the Year and the People’s Choice Award. Hyperspace Comics, Cargill Value Added Meats or Main Street Law LLP will walk away with the top honour at the end of the evening. This will be the last one ever selected in just Spruce Grove for a while as the chamber is set to soon merge with Stony Plain’s.
“Planning this one took on an added significance,” Tegan Wendel, chamber membership and events coordinator, said. “I am looking forward to this gala creating a home feeling for anyone who has been in the region for as many years we have existed. It is a chamber celebration.”
Zender Ford won for Business of the Year Over $3 Million last year and is once again hosting this year’s event. Other nominees include Glass Slipper Entertainment, Modern Farmhouse and Twice as Nice Consignment and more for New Business of the Year and Inspec Health Solutions, Romantic Notions and The Parlour Salon in the People’s Choice Award category. They will go on to be represented in the new chamber organization being developed and will stand to have more influence once it makes its debut.
“We will have more input with the Alberta and Canadian chambers,” Stony Plain and District Chamber of Commerce president Kevin White said in April when the merger was approved. “We can carry the concerns of our members more prominently than they were in the past.”
There will be future awards galas, but, for Stephanie Mallett of Hyperspace Comics, it is an honour and privilege to be one of the last nominees to be considered by the chamber and businesses in Spruce Grove.
“When we heard we were nominated we had tears in our eyes,” she said. “We are so excited and happy to be in this good community.”
