The sixth annual Black History Month Cultural Extravaganza took place in Fort McMurray on Saturday, bringing together cultures and cuisines from around the world.

“Every year this incredible occasion gives insight into black history and because of an event like this we can share understanding of culture and celebrate differences,” said Muna Ali, board member of the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo.

All those attending were able eat traditional foods, try on clothing and take part in dancing all afternoon.

“The cultural extravaganza is a celebration unlike any other in Wood Buffalo. It showcases black culture in our community and gives all residents an opportunity to learn, explore and enjoy,” said Councillor Sheila Lalonde. “Celebrations like this shine a spotlight on the cultural richness of Wood Buffalo and demonstrate why we are so proud to call this place home.”
