The municipality announced Thursday that the winter road to Fort Chipewyan will close on Sunday, March 17 at 5 p.m.
The closure comes due to the rise in temperature and the ice road melting.
Last year, the winter road closed on March 19.
The municipality is asking drivers to stay to the right-hand side of the road to make room for oncomming traffic and to drive with caution, as water has stated to pool in some areas and is making the road slick.
Ongoing updates about the winter roads and trails in the municipality can be found at rmwb. ca/winterroads. the municipality’s Facebook and twitter accounts will also post updates. People can also call the Winter road hotline at 1-866-743-6111 or 780-743-7000.
