Council requests increase in speed limit
The city is seeking to increase the speed limit on Highway 101 between Hallnor Road and the Pamour overpass from its current 70 km/h to 80 km/h.
Timmins council on Tuesday approved a resolution to send the Ontario Ministry of Transportation a letter expressing its support to increase the speed limit along that stretch.
Park to be renamed in honour of Fern Tremblay
King Street Park in Timmins is being renamed to honour Fern Tremblay, who served as the last reeve of Mountjoy Township prior to amalgamation in 1973.
Timmins council, in the resolution passed Tuesday night, also acknowledged Tremblay’s years of involvement in the community through service clubs and charitable organizations.
“Whereas Fernand Tremblay has demonstrated excellence in commitment to our community as the founder of the Joseph Fortin Foundation and as a member of numerous service clubs and committees resulting in his being named as a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient,” the resolution read. “Therefore be it resolved that the City of Timmins does hereby recognize Fernand Tremblay’s service by renaming the King Street Park as the Fernand Tremblay Park.”
The resolution was passed unanimously.
