Organizers of the Cochrane Outhouse Races have announced the addition of two more open spaces for teams that wish to enter an outhouse in the 2019 edition of the races, to be held on a closed-off section of First Street in the historic downtown on the afternoon of August 25.

“We’ve decided we have room after looking at it, the spots went so quickly we were rather shocked about how many teams signed up so fast,” said organizer Dan Kroffat.

“We have two opportunities left for anybody who wants to hurry and sign up.”

Custom-built ‘racing’ outhouses are mounted on bicycle wheels and towed by teams of four with a fifth body inside as payload. Businesses and other groups enter their own outhouses and are encouraged to decorate them as well. Last year, a team from the local McDonald’s franchise took home top spot.

Over 1000 spectators are anticipated for this year’s event, which is held as a fundraiser for the Rotary Club in their efforts to help rebuild the playground at the Girl Guides’ Camp Jubilee located in Cochrane.

Groups interested either entering the race or sponsoring the event should contact the Heavenly Outhouse’s Karrie Peace at 403-932-9288.
