Banff Whisky Experience say they are all set to serve up “some of the world’s finest whisky on the world’s finest rocks” with what aims to be a weekend dedicated to embracing the culture of craft. It will be the second year for the spirited event to host two days of whisky-driven education and one night of whisky sampling held at the Banff Centre on September 13 and 14.

“We wanted to really elevate the event this year, in all terms of the word,” says Andrew Hardingham, Banff Whisky Experience founder and chief curator.
“That’s why we’re thrilled to be hosting the event at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The
location, with its wrap-around views, not only makes for a stunning backdrop but further helps to
heighten and hone the senses for an overall immersive experience you won’t find anywhere else.”

In addition to its new location, the festival has added 15 carefully-crafted masterclasses to the menu,
taught by world renowned Master distillers, Master blenders, whisky authors, and brand ambassadors.
These unique, spirit-forward educational sessions cover a variety of topics from bourbon and prohibition to sherry cask maturation and whisky from uncommon corners of the globe.

“We dedicated a lot of time to creating these new educational opportunities that are unique to our
festival. It was important to us that they be intimate and informative, but also approachable for all levels of craft spirit enthusiasts. The masterclasses are ideal for those just starting to dip their toes in the world of whisky as well as those who want to build on the knowledge they already have,” explains Hardingham.

Local Banff favourite PARK Distillery will be joining in the educational offerings with an exclusive insider look at their Exploratory Whisky Project with Master Distiller Matthew Hendriks. In this class, attendees will learn a deeper side to the craft distilling process and be one of the first and few to taste PARK’s carefully evolving whisky program.
Capping off the festivities is the Grand Tasting Event, held in the Husky Great Hall of the Kinnear Centre on September 14 from 7 – 10 pm (6 pm for VIP). Hundreds of different whiskies from around the world will be available for tasting, with industry experts at the ready to discuss tasting notes, pairing suggestions, and tips on how to best appreciate the intricate flavours hitting the palate.

“With glass in hand, attendees of the Grand Tasting event will be able to sample their way around the room, and the world. Canada produces the best grain on the planet and has some of the purest water in the world, so it makes sense that the craft industry is now producing some of the most award-winning whiskies around. We’re excited to be bringing some of Canada’s top craft distilleries to present alongside international craft and established whisky brands from Scotland, the United States, Sweden, India, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Ireland, and beyond,” says Hardingham.

Festival passes, hotel packages, and tickets for masterclasses and the Grand Tasting Event are now
available online at www.banffwhiskyexperience.com. Attendees must be 18+.
